These tests can look more closely for a uterine septum, polyps, adhesions, or fibroids that distort the cavity. Not every fibroid affects pregnancy, and not every finding requires surgery. The decision depends on the location, size, symptoms, and whether there is a clear connection to the pregnancy history.
Hormonal and metabolic health
Blood tests may assess thyroid function, blood sugar control, and other medical conditions that can affect pregnancy. Uncontrolled thyroid disease and diabetes, for example, can increase pregnancy risks, while treatment and good preconception control can support a healthier environment for conception.
Progesterone is sometimes discussed after recurrent miscarriage because it supports the uterine lining in early pregnancy. Whether testing or supplementation is appropriate depends on the pattern of losses and the wider clinical picture. It is not a universal answer, which is why individualized medical advice is so important.
Blood clotting and autoimmune testing
One recognized cause of recurrent pregnancy loss is antiphospholipid syndrome, an autoimmune condition associated with abnormal blood clotting and pregnancy complications. Testing typically involves specific blood tests that may need to be repeated after a period of time to confirm the diagnosis.
If antiphospholipid syndrome is diagnosed, treatment during pregnancy may improve outcomes for some patients. However, broader testing for inherited clotting conditions or immune markers is not appropriate for everyone. The role of sperm and embryo factors
Miscarriage is often discussed as a female health issue, but conception involves both partners. Semen analysis may be considered, particularly when there are fertility concerns, a history of male-factor infertility, or difficulty conceiving alongside recurrent loss. In selected cases, a specialist may discuss sperm DNA fragmentation testing, although its role and the best response to an abnormal result can vary.

IVF with PGT-A may be considered for some couples, especially where embryo chromosome factors are a significant concern. It can help select embryos with the expected number of chromosomes for transfer, but it does not create healthy embryos, improve egg quality, or guarantee a live birth.
