In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF)
What is it ?
In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) is a fertility treatment where eggs are retrieved from a woman’s ovaries, fertilized with sperm in a laboratory, and the resulting embryos are transferred into the uterus. It is highly effective for overcoming various fertility challenges.
When and Why Choose IVF?
IVF is recommended for individuals or couples facing:
- Blocked or damaged fallopian tubes.
- Severe male-factor infertility.
- Unexplained infertility.
- Genetic conditions requiring embryo screening.
When and Why Choose IVF?
IVF is recommended for individuals or couples facing:

- Unexplained infertility.
- Genetic conditions requiring embryo screening.
Suitable for
- Couples with a history of failed fertility treatments.
- Women with ovulation disorders.
- Men with low sperm count or motility issues.
- Individuals undergoing PGT for genetic concerns.
Step By Step Process:
Step 1
Ovarian Stimulation
Hormonal tablet or injections will be prescribed to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs
Step 2
Egg Retrieval and Sperm Collection
A female partner will undergo a minor procedure under sedation to retrive mature eggs while the male partner will be requested to produce semen sample via masturbation.
Step 3
Fertilisation
Eggs are fertilised with sperm in the lab, either through conventional methods or Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).
Step 4
Embryo Development & Transfer
The fertilised eggs (embryos), are cultured in a laboratory incubator for 3 to 6 days and only selected healthy embryos are either sent for cryopreservation or transferred back into the womb using a fine straw-like carrier.
Step 5
Post Transfer Care
Pregnancy tests are recommended 10–14 days post-procedure to confirm results. A progesterone supplement will also be prescribed to support the uterine lining.

More About the Procedure :
Duration
4–6 weeks from ovarian stimulation to embryo transfer.
Pain Level
Mild discomfort during egg retrieval and hormonal stimulation.
Recovery Timeline
Minimal downtime; most patients resume normal activities the day after embryo transfer.
Pre-Assessment Requirements
- Hormonal testing and ultrasound to evaluate ovarian function.
- Semen analysis for male partners.
- Uterine health evaluation.
Quick Answers to Common Queries:
An average of 10 – 20 eggs are usually retrieved for IVF. However, not all of them are viable to use as on average, only about two-thirds have the appropriate maturity.
PGT can ensure that the embryo selected for transfer has the correct number of chromosomes, thereby reducing the chances for a failed IVF cycle and reducing the chance of miscarriage.

The main advantage of ICSI is the chances of fertilisation are higher than just IVF if there is male-factor infertility.
